What is Double Cleansing?

Very simply put, double cleansing is a 2-step process: Step 1: lifting the dirt and makeup, Step 2: rinsing it away. It’s typically done with 2 different cleansers each meant to preform a very specific function. Let’s break this down.

Step 1: Lift the Dirt and Makeup

This step is done with an oil-based cleanser. Why an oil-based cleanser? Many of us use oil-based products on our skin such as foundation, blush, highlighter, eye makeup, and don’t forget sunscreen. These products can leave oily deposits that are hard to get off completely. Throughout the course of the day, these products find their way into your pores and some of them get trapped in there. Then on top of that add in the pollutants from your environment, and you’ve got a lot of hard to remove stuff on your face. You use an oil-based cleanser because, as many of us learned in chemistry, “like dissolves like”. The oils in the cleanser will actually work into the pores to dissolve and lift out what has become trapped. Not only does the oil-based cleanser lift out the makeup and dirt deposits of the day, but it will also dissolve any sebum, that has oxidized over time, and become trapped in the pores. If not removed, this hardened sebum is what become blackheads. Some believe that oil cleansing is the most through way of getting the skin really clean.

Step 2: Rinse the Dirt and Makeup away

The second cleanser you will use is a mild MOISTURIZING foaming cleanser. This is to remove any residue that might be left on the skin after the oil cleansing.

Won't an oil cleanser cause breakouts you ask.

No! When used properly, an oil cleanser doesn't add more oil to your face. It actually washes away the excess oil from your face, keeping your skin clean and helping balance your skin's moisture level. This means your skin is actually less likely to break out!

Try double cleansing every night for 2 weeks and you’ll see the difference it can make.

First pour a quarter-sized amount of the Nourishing Oil Cleanser into your palm. Rub palms together spreading oil evenly. Press palms and oil onto dry facial skin. Massage into all areas of the face, neck, and décolleté, taking your time, about 60 seconds, you want the oil to work into your pores so that blackheads and impurities can be softened and dissolved. Now, wet a clean washcloth with super warm water (not too warm that it's uncomfortable) place the washcloth over your face for a few seconds then wipe away the impurities and excess oil.

Next wet skin and pump a few pumps of the Foaming Facial Cleanser into palm, lather with warm water and wash face gently with circular motions. Rinse and moisturize.
